Robins eliminated from FA Trophy – Reading Today Online

BRACKNELL TOWN were eliminated from the FA Trophy after they were on the end of a home defeat to Horsham.

Horsham Town, aka Hornets, were a close equivalent at Step Three and 10th in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

Captain, Charles Hester-Cook, returned from suspension and new man Romain was on the bench.

Robins got off to a bright start and soon won a corner kick which was headed away by Harding. A further corner kick was headed wide then Horsham had the ball on the and passed it out to the wing where full back sprinted right up to near the corner flag and sent a useful cross in but one striker did not connect.

His skipper, Hester-Cook., netted the ball without hesitation to make it 1-0 in the seventh minute.

The ball fell to Max Herbert who almost scored had Carey not been able to fingertip the ball over the bar.Robins next attempt went direct to Keeper Carey.

Not long afterwards, Meekums found himself in the middle of a crowd of players but eventually broke free with some intricate footwork. Meekums also had a chance but Eacott saved the ball with his legs.

Horsham took a free kick which was deflected behind for a corner kick and a chip shot that went nowhere saw the end of the first-half.

Play was a bit scrappy after the restart to the second half and Horsham were offside as Robins made a quick pass to switch wings and midfield play which was time consuming. Jack Strange won the ball in his area and broke out into a fairly empty midfield before he pushed the ball on for Romain to chase.

As he caught up with the ball, Mike Eacott edged towards the almost empty Bracknell penalty area but he rounded Eacott and had only a defender to beat he shot the ball at his left/hand post and the defender could not reach the ball as it landed in the back of the net.

Robins were not quite done and kept attacking whenever possible but Owusu, Esprit and Joe Grant seemed to be dragged down by the Horsham midfielders and defence causing lack of opportunity to get near the goal.

Before being subbed, Grant received a cross from Esprit but his shot was saved by Carey. Ben Harris sent a header towards the Hornets goal but it hit the framework and stayed in play but Owusu’s shot was saved by Carey.

When 90 minutes arrived, Ajakaiye had a moment of speed and left the sole defender in midfield sprinting all the way and rounded Eacott with only an empty net to tap the ball into for the third goal.
