Royals fans relish sold out away derby day – Reading Today Online

Reading fans are relishing their most anticipated away trip of the season as the Royals face local rivals Oxford United on Saturday.

The Thames Valley derby was contested at the SCL last month for the first time in more than two decades with the game ending in a stalemate.

Ciaron Brown opened the scoring for the U’s before Reading quickly hit back through Sam Smith to see the points shared.

With demand for away tickets very high, the Royals sold out their allocation of 1,487 in less than 24 hours.

Reading’s last visit to the Kassam Stadium came in 2004 for a League Cup encounter which the Royals won 2-0.

Reading are unbeaten in their last six meetings with the U’s, stretching back to 2000.

Reading go into the contest still in the relegation places despite their recent upturn in form which has seen them lose just once in their last nine league fixtures.

The Royals are on 27 points, three points adrift of safety with plenty of sides within catching distance in a tightly contested lower half of the table.

Oxford are still clinging onto the play-off places and are in sixth place after their Tuesday night draw with league leaders Portsmouth.

The U’s went in front through Tyler Goddrham before late goals from Colby Bishop and Callum Lang looked to have given Pompey three points.

However, James Henry netted a 90th minute leveller to help Oxford to pick up a useful point.

Since facing Reading in December, Oxford have lost four Times in League One which has seen them slip down the table.

Predicted Reading line-up: Button, Yiadom, Bindon, Holmes, Dorsett, Craig, Wing, Knibbs, Azeez, Mukairu, Smith
