Royals look for first home win after away success in Women’s Championship – Reading Today Online

Reading Women v Charlton Athletic

READING FC WOMEN will be looking to make it back to back wins in the Women’s Championship when they host Lewes on Sunday.

The Royals picked up their first victory under new boss Liam Gilbert with an away success in Durham which moved them up to seventh in the table.

Gilbert’s team will be full of confidence, while Lewes will be at the other end of the spectrum having made a disappointing start to the season.

Lewes have picked up just one point from their opening five matches with four defeats and a draw, which leaves them at the bottom of the standings.

The Rooks started their campaign with a 4-1 home loss to Southampton, a result that was matched by Reading a few weeks later.

They then lost out at Durham before they earned their only point of the season so far in a goalless draw with Birmingham city which saw both teams reduced to 10 players.

Lewes’ faltering form continued with defeats to both Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers which leaves them three points adrift at the bottom.

Scott Booth’s team have struggled in front of goal and have scored just one goal in their five games, while they have conceded nine times.

Lewes finished in ninth position in the Women’s Championship table in 2022/23. They amassed 26 points with seven wins, five draws and 10 defeats which saw them well above any potential relegation battle.
