Ruben Selles speaks on new addition as Monlouis joins from Arsenal – Reading Today Online

Reading FC - Zane Monlouis

Reading manager Ruben Selles outlined the qualities that he believes Arsenal loanee Zane Monlouis can bring to his squad.

Having lost several players throughout the January transfer window, the Royals managed to bring one player in as Monlouis joins until the end of the season from the Gunners.

The 20-year-old centre back has captained Arsenal U21s and also appeared for the north London side in their defeat to Reading in November in the EFL Trophy.

Speaking on the complications of bringing a player into the club due to the club’s financial difficulties, Selles said: “I think Edu and Arsenal were brilliant with us. They want the player to develop and get some playing time in professional football.

“We proved that the players with us are competing well and the young talented players are getting to the stage where they are competitive.

“Arsenal saw an opportunity and the cost for us is none. Arsenal is helping us on that and it was good business for us because the player is very interesting.

“Zane is quite experienced in academy football and has been captain for Arsenal.

“He’s good in possession, aggressive and can cover big spaces. It’s a good compliment for the club.

“We add a quality young player to our squad and at some point we will need him to play and compete.”

Monlouis is yet to make an appearance in senior football, but Selles believes the player is ready to step up to the challenge.

He continued: “We know we are not in the space to wait for anybody because we need results and we need them now.

“We have made mistakes that have cost us points, at the end of games mainly.

“But I think we can get a player like Zane and give him his playing time without risking anything. I think he can be good for us, compete for us and try and get his position in the team. Reading can be really good for him.”
