Ruben Selles celebrates first Reading FC league away win – Reading Today Online

Reading v Burton Albion - Ruben Selles

READING FC boss Ruben Selles believes his side ‘got what they deserved’ as they celebrated their first away victory in the league for more than a year.

The Royals ended a torrid run of 374 days without an away win on the road as they defeated Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

Reading went in front through Sam Smith before KIllian Phillips popped up with a quick reply.

But it was former Wycombe man Lewis Wing who produced the winning strike as his shot deflected in to give the Royals a long awaited away win.

“The players are happy, the staff are happy,” said Selles.

“It was consistent for 100 minutes and we got what we deserved.

“It was a team learning that game (at Shrewsbury). We showed we can play well and be a team that is difficult to beat. We did it today and the second half.

“It was an easy choice in a situation like that to go back and defend the goal but we decided to stay higher, apply pressure and minimise their situations.

“We need to prove we can have this performance in a sustainable way and be robust.

“Let’s show today as an example of the things we can do together and build from that.”

Selles also discussed his selection dilemmas as he made just one change from the Shrewsbury game, which saw Michael Craig replace suspended Sam Hutchinson in midfield.

He continued: “It was just one change from the last game where Sam Hutchinson had the yellow card and couldn’t play today. Craigy has been working really well for us, in the Charlton game and the cup games.

“All the players are training really hard and working really hard which makes things really difficult for us.

The competition is hard in the team and we need to sustain the level.”

Selles also praised the team’s away support as almost 2,000 fans travelled to see the win at Wycombe

He said: “They (the fans) have been with us from the very beginning and we love when we can do it all together.

The boys can celebrate with them. They have been amazing my entire time here and I’m happy that today, finally we gave them something that they deserve.”
